Discover Gangchon Charcoal Dakgalbi

If you're in Seoul and craving an unforgettable dining experience, Gangchon Charcoal Dakgalbi is the place to be. Nestled in the heart of Jongno District at 18 Jong-ro 9-gil, this restaurant serves up some of the best dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken) in the city, a dish that has become a staple in Korean cuisine.

The moment you step into Gangchon Charcoal Dakgalbi, you're greeted by the mouthwatering aroma of sizzling chicken, vegetables, and spicy seasonings. This isn't your typical dakgalbi, though. The dish here is cooked over a charcoal grill, which adds an extra layer of flavor that makes it stand out from other places in Seoul. The use of charcoal ensures that the chicken remains tender on the inside while achieving a crispy, caramelized finish on the outside.

What makes Gangchon Charcoal Dakgalbi so special is the variety of options available on their menu. While the traditional dakgalbi is a hit, the restaurant also offers different variations to cater to a wide range of tastes. For those who like it extra spicy, the fiery dakgalbi is a must-try. The dish comes with a mix of fresh vegetables, rice cakes, and chewy noodles, all cooked in a tangy, spicy sauce. The best part is that you can customize the spice level to your liking, ensuring that every bite packs the perfect punch.

But it’s not just about the food. The experience at Gangchon Charcoal Dakgalbi is all about the communal atmosphere. The grill is brought right to your table, where you're encouraged to take part in the cooking process. It's a fun and interactive way to enjoy your meal with friends or family, and the sizzling sound of the grill adds to the excitement. There’s something truly satisfying about stirring the ingredients yourself and seeing the dish come together before your eyes.

One of the most popular items on the menu is the "cheese dakgalbi." As the chicken and vegetables cook, melted cheese is poured over the top, creating a rich and creamy layer that balances out the heat from the spicy sauce. The combination of spicy, savory, and cheesy flavors is a crowd favorite and is definitely worth trying. If you're a fan of cheese and spicy food, this dish will quickly become your go-to order.

The restaurant also serves a variety of sides that complement the main dish perfectly. From kimchi to refreshing salads, the sides at Gangchon Charcoal Dakgalbi are designed to enhance the flavors of the dakgalbi. Be sure to try their pickled radishes, which provide a crisp, tangy contrast to the richness of the grilled chicken.

What sets Gangchon Charcoal Dakgalbi apart from other restaurants in the area is the authentic, homey feel of the place. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready to help you with the cooking process or offer suggestions on what to order. The atmosphere is relaxed, making it the perfect spot for both casual dinners and special gatherings.

In terms of location, Gangchon Charcoal Dakgalbi is conveniently situated in the bustling Jongno District, a popular area for both locals and tourists. After a satisfying meal, you can take a stroll through the nearby streets, explore local shops, or head to a nearby cafe to unwind.

Customer reviews consistently rave about the quality of the food and the fun, interactive dining experience. Many diners note that the charcoal-grilled dakgalbi is a game-changer, offering a deeper, smokier flavor that’s hard to find elsewhere. Others love the variety of menu options and the opportunity to customize their meal to suit their preferences.

For those who have never tried dakgalbi before, Gangchon Charcoal Dakgalbi is a great introduction to this beloved Korean dish. • This is one of the few places that does only barbecue chicken no pork no meat. I ordered the chicken neck meat and chicken feet and chicken thigh with herb. Because the chicken neck me and chicken feed are marinated in a spicy sauce so there's no dipping requirement. You will just eat it like you're eating a pork or beef barbecue. Has to the chicken thigh marinated in herb, I think next time I will cook them myself because when they cut it up to cook it's faster but then they let all the juices out which later makes the chicken dry. They also do have steamed egg which is not on the menu with English translation. The overall experience it's pretty good considered it's grilled over a charcoal and you do get the charcoal flavor.
